The MU-2 phono stage uses J-FET transistors in parallel with the 6922 tube in the input stage. Together with the 6922 tube second stage and MOSFET as a source follower, 56dB amplification factor is achieved. In practice it pairs well with moving coil (MC) cartridges of 0.2mV and higher and moving magnet (MM) carts. Thanks to the advanced stabilized power supply the sound of MU-2 offers hum and noise much lower than generated by the vinyl record itself. Side to side comparison with transistor preamps reveals the MU-2 is more dynamic and neutral. The front panel is made of polished glass and the chassis is made of polished acid-resistant stainless steel. The power supply module together with toroidal transformer are separated from the rest of electronics by additional metal shielding.
